Hi,
We have an exciting opportunity for a Linux Systems Administrator to
join a New Era, a market leader in the Educational Software industry.
The position is based in Brighton, the leading E-learning city in the UK.
The successful candidate will join a team of two Systems Administrators
responsible for the management and upkeep of our live infrastructure,
including around 100 servers - both physical and virtual - comprising
scalable and highly-available clusters.
We're looking for someone who likes to do things the right way and
enjoys deep technical challenges. There is a lot of scope to be involved
in and drive projects using new and emerging technologies, so you should
be able to design and implement inventive and scalable systems - but
also know when to keep things simple.
This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with web platform
experience to enjoy a stimulating and varied role. The position would
involve working in a fast-paced environment encompassing many different
technologies and provides the chance to make a difference in a
fast-growing company. You need to be comfortable working in an
environment of rapid development, as part of a multi-disciplined
technical team, and will be expected to actively contribute to the
evolution of working practices and processes.
Required skills:
· Experience running scalable web platforms and associated software stacks
· Solid and proven experience of administering Linux machines (Ubuntu in
particular)
· Good understanding of common application-layer network protocols (DNS,
SMTP, HTTP, IMAP, etc.)
· Scripting in either Shell, Perl, Ruby or Python (experience with
modern Perl would be particularly beneficial).
· Administration of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL in
clustered/replicated environments.
· Comfortable working in a datacentre environment
· Knowledge of LVM and RAID (hardware and/or software) management.
Desirable skills:
· Mail subsystems (exim)
· Experience of a using and supporting a Java environment and related
technologies such as the JVM, Apache Tomcat, Jenkins and Maven.
· Understanding of BGP and OSPF using Juniper routers and managed
switches, in addition to VPNs, VLANs and subnetting.
· Experience with virtualisation technologies such as KVM, Xen or VMWare.
· Experience with load balancing, high availability systems and clusters.
· Configuration management using Puppet.
· Comfortable with version control using Git and Subversion.
· Icinga/Nagios monitoring
· Clustered network storage (SANs, iSCSI, Ceph)
