as a gentoo user ;) i tell you never to try to play with gentoo  
without referencing to http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/
if you are asking this question, means
1) you never read it
2) gentoo is simply not for you

this is a general knowledge

p.s. personally from me: don't "install" gentoo system using  
installer. do it gentoo-way - from scratch. believe me, it's gonna pay  
off - you will learn more about the system (and linux in general) than  
you possibly knew in all of your linux user experience. it's worth it.
