[Lust] St albans and Luton LUG

Hi guys,

I went to the last Linux Expo at Olympia and it was disappointing. It's getting really business-oriented now, whereas I when I first went, a few years ago, there was much more "community" about it.

The first time I went, Bob Young was still in charge of RedHat and he was there giving brilliant (and hilarious) talks about why Open Source is the way forward, the Debian people were there handing out free CDs, there were more of the "cottage industry" type companies, small start-ups with (usually just) one good idea, booksellers, and more "characters" (beardy blokes :-) there.

Now the big companies have got a foot in the door, there are admittedly lots more babes, but by lunchtime everything had been explored, and there was nothing left to see. I guess the small guys have been priced out.

So, go to Linux Expo, but don't expect too much, is what I'm trying to say.

Nice to have have a new member to the LUG, welcome Chris. It's also quite nice to see some LUG-related e-mails!

Regards,

Rob
