Phil,

I use Slackware (10 years now) for the exact same reasons mentioned by Pat. I
wold highly recommend it to anyone who likes the command line and wants to be
in control of their own system. Don't get me wrong, the GUI stuff all works,
but you choose to use it.

If you have broadband, i would also recommend Gentoo, which is a weird mixture
of slackware and *BSD. Come Jan 07th (ADSL install day in Leigh Sinton), I
will be installing it.

For the adventurous amongst u, try FreeBSD. I just installed it and it is
pretty sleek. Obviously as I walk around wearing OpenBSD t-shirts, I have to
mention that for any Internet facing systems. It rocks.

Have a good Xmas y'all!!
