A hi-fi geek friend[1] from a former life told me about a house he
visited to buy some second hand piece of kit. The gentleman lived in a
standard suburban house but had a large stack of car batteries by the
impressive hi-fi setup. Every separates unit had been opened up and had
the power lines cut and was now fed by the batteries. Steve told me he
noticed this first by the feeling of warmth from the corner of the room
rather than by his eyes.
Cheers

[1] All carbon cabling from the CD through the DAC and amp to the
speakers geeky enough?
