: [Malvern] Compiz

Evening Geoff

The whole idea of the project is to, apart from the eye candy, provide a
windows manager that can be easily extended across a number of desktops and
OS's and is not so dependant on the underlying desktop system.

Whether or not it makes your tasks any easier, only you can decide that, but
remember that if Linux desktops are to compete on a level playing field with
other desktop managers, there has to be something that duplicates / betters
what you can get proprietory, and the 3D desktop manager of the moment is
Compis Fusion.

I note that some of the more "progressive" distros are starting to include
compiz ( or similar).

The main feature seems the ability to select from four open desktops by
rotating a cube.

Can anyone explain why this is any better than choosing from the four
little boxes at the bottom of my KDE display ?

Or is it just another gimmick, or eye-candy ?

Best regards,

Geoff.
