[Newark] Linux (Ubuntu) Graphics Tablets

Hi Everyone 

Has anyone had any experience with Graphic tablets with Ubuntu, I can find lots information regarding Wacom tablets but unfortunately there very expensive. Is there another cheaper option to use and how much playing is involved getting the pressure sensitivity working properly ?.

Ps apart from gimp and running PS in wine is there any other good painting and drawing programs you would recommend?
