[Newark] LUG Website

I'm up for a planet. I don't own a weblog and I don't plan on owning a
weblog, nor do I read any logs but... No, I can't see where I'm going with
this either. I'm a really awful member of this LUG; I'm a hundred and fifty
miles from Newark, I don't like Ubuntu, I don't have a 'blog', I don't care
about 'podcasts' and most of my conversations about Linux end up lamenting
its faults. Someone needs to prove to me that the Linux kernel is
technically better than, say, Minix and OSX. I mean, the latter is a lot
like what HURD wanted to be before Stallman gave up on it. Linux needs
overhauling. And by "overhauling" I really mean scrapping but the contenders
for successors are Minix, HURD and Plan 9 from Bell Labs. Minix is old and
small and I don't know anything about it, and the other two are experimental
and incomplete. Bash needs replacing, especially now Microsoft is making us
all look like fools for still using ASCII pipes as if none of us could think
up object pipes. GNOME and KDE are both bad, GNOME just happens to be less
bad. Most of the other DMs are basically screen with graphics. Ubuntu's
storming the world and yet has coreutils from 2006 with no shuf or sort -R
just to affirm that they don't give two hoots about the CLI and don't want
us to either.

I've sometimes wondered if anyone could turn it around and actually make the
zealots right about Linux being easier and technically superior to Mac or
Windows. It would take direction and it would take someone to start caring
about the tech first and the ethics second. But... qué será será, eh? Mac is
expensive and stupid, Windows is expensive and bad, Linux is free and
somewhat less stupid and somewhat less bad. Huzzah.
