OK for back in the days of the original ARPA-net (DARPA-net) and the 300 
bits per second links. You can easily see each individual character as 
the UART collects the bits. I can physically type faster (in burst mode 
(:-)). Bit of a sod with only single character double buffered chips.

... And then there were the 50 baud mechanical clunck clank spark zap 
ping! machines that made the floor shake on each CR-LF! (And where LF-CR 
caused the type head to tear the paper, or worse if you got the timing 
just completely wrong!)

Geeee, those were the days. Roll on Compo and gang and more wine...

OOoooo, thats cruel. This has got very serious. One 'sorry' has been 
extracted (although surronded by very non-sorry self-centred crap). 
Another more genuine "sorry" should be forthcoming.


Your last idea would completely exclude me!
