[Nottingham] HP Scanjet 5370C

Has anyone had any success getting one of these scanners to work with 
sane. I can get the scanner recognised using the avision backend but 
just get random garbage when I try to scan or preview using either kooka 
or xsane. I have tried commenting out various options in avision.conf as 
suggested in the man pages and am running Mandrake 9.0
