Regarding Partition Magic, & Red Hat.
I could not get Fedora to play with my disk AT ALL! *ed everything!
Had to resort to DELETING partitions WITH *fdisk* and undeleting them in PM.
Ooh-errr, missus!!!!!!!!!!

Mandrake can't do changes to the partion table (for me) either.
It does work if you DON'T resize, create or w.h.y.

Just my experience, but I assume it's down to using PM.
