Hi all,

My konqueror has been presenting some issues here (KDE 3.2.2 debian sarge,
2.6.6 kernel): the Audio CD Browser spinning continuously and there are
mysterious regular attempts to insmod inappropriate modules (sbpcd & sjcd)
that send my CPU usage up to 100% for up to a minute at a time - most
annoying! I found references to this:-
* on the debian kde list at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2004/04/msg00047.html with some hints on
avoiding the modprobes,
* on kdebugs at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67134

I think the fault may be in my config of module-init-tools (I haven't touched
it out of the box) but the README and README.debian don't help me. The
suggestion from the debian-kde list to add lines to /etc/modutils like "alias
block-major-15 off" won't help because (other than not knowing what on earth
this means :) ) /etc/modutils is a directory! I think i need a course in the
latest developments in hardware detection that go on in modern distros.

What has me frustrated me most is that I sold my soul to the devil by getting
all cutting edge and using a distro that does a lot of magic that I'm not
aware of! Y'see, I'm more used to tiny embedded distros where I have intimate
knowledge of every running process - but of course with those fellas I don't
get accelerated GL games and funky eyecandy. Ah!

Regards,
Michael.
