Yes, thanks for the note. That's a nice alternative to blacklisting.

But then again, that simple script kiddie list is so far off base that 
I'm happy to slow it down somewhat with a few thousand failed attempts. 
I just blackist them on shorewall if I want to keep the logs clean.
