Fixed it.

I got a couple of leads from the KDE list, and in the end deleting 
~/.kde/share/apps/ksysguard and ~/.kde/share/config/ksysguardrc and 
restarting the applet got it going again.

> It's installed as kdeutils-klaptop-3.3.2-22.mdk - Mandrake installed it 
> automatically at installation time.
Also got this up and running, and have full acpi controls in KDE :-D
