Although you were actually answering a different question as you
point out yourself in a later mail, I don't think your answer here
is correct - I believe WAV files have a header, which after splitting,
would be absent from the second half and invalid for the first.

I know that they can't simply be concatenated using cat .. I use
shntool for this. I think shntool can be used to split WAVS as well
- just checked, yes it can.
