Ah, right.  Just looked at how Digikam supports the Canon A45 - it doesn't 
treat it as a USB MSS device, so I assume it doesn't mount in the same way. 

Is it worth trying Digikam to see if that can deal with it?  AIUI it uses 
gphoto behind the scenes, so you may not be lucky....
