I'm just upgrading a kernel to 2.6.14, and this exists:

Device Drivers->Input Device Support->Touchscreens->MicroTouch serial
touchscreens (NEW)

It creates an "mtouch" module.

This option isn't in 2.6.11 - I can't compare to others.

Not sure if that helps or not :)
