[Nottingham] Help - printer won't do anything, need something printed tonight.

I wild guess is to try turning your printer off and back on and then 
rebooting your PC.

I sometimes have USB devices work fine from bootup but fail on the 
"hotplug" daemon if attached after bootup.

Have you got all necessary services running?
(devfs, hotplug, usb stuff, others?)
