A couple of people have suggested copying /etc/services over to
var/spool/postfix/etc/services - I've tried this, and the problem may not
have gone away, but it's changed!
Nothing is now sticking in th mail queue, but I am getting bounce messages
instead! The result of mailing (from the command line) a test message to my
address at david at aldred.org is a bounce mail which, after a standard (quite
nicely phrased) 'couldn't deliver you mail' text, provides the deatiled
appended below.
Basically, there is still somthing it can't find, but I can't tell what!
One thought: should there be anything in my xinetd.conf file relating to smtp?
That's about the only thing I've been mucking about with since the time when
postfix was working: I'm just wondering if I hit a button twice in vi and
deleted more than I meant to, or something...
Those details from the bounce messge:-
