Dovecot should be able to handle this.  Generally, dovecot "just works"
if you want an imap or pop3 server that reads users mailboxes.  If you
want something different as in your case, you just need to change
"default_mail_env" in "/etc/dovecot.conf" to something like
"/home/david/.Mail/.Family.directory/%n/cur" or similar.

Note that I haven't done this myself, but it looks like it should work.
