[Nottingham] Flame-free Desktop War

Good morning list,

I'd first like to note that this is a purely technical post with no need 
for flames ;)

I'm personally trying to evaluate KDE vs GNOME and to that end would 
like to run the two desktops independanlty for a while but because of 
the freedesktop menu specifications I can't work out how to do this on 
the same install...

I hope this makes sense?

Any ideas? I'd rather not use live CD's.
