Hurm, is it me or aren't MX records irrelevant for that hostname? You 
want to use the SMTP services of NTL for mail relaying, not sending 
e-mail to users at smtp.ntlworld.com. You want to look up the A record, 
not the MX record.

I could be wrong! :)

Of course that still leaves the question of why your Postfix can't seem 
to look up the A record for that hostname O_o
