I had a bit of a mood on re Microsoft which wasn't helped either by NTL
losing most of my incoming email yesterday. I did manage to not rise to
the bait about 100 year-old BT telephone poles...!

A few of the bits that I do remember covered various bits of: operating
systems history; Microsoft and SCO & Novell vs Linux and FOSS; (MS)
viruses; WINE; virtual machines; the GPL and how hardware dongles have
broken the spirit of the existing GPL; hardware implemented encryption
keys/locks; Windows Vista; licensing and the intrusive control that is
possible; lots of LaTeX; X-ray crystallography; travel; and various
other bits.

And the bar service was swift and smooth.

Good to see the usual Beeston contingent + Martin G from afar + guest + Jon.


Next do is to hear all about LaTeX!
