As it came, the Gnome GUI tool to adjust screen resolution only
offered three choices, of which the largest was 1280x1024.
I did: apt-get install 915resolution
then: sudo gedit /etc/default/915resolution
and inserted the correct values in
MODE=Auto
XRESO=
YRESO=
BIT=
Log out, Ctrl-Alt-Bksp, log back in.
Not difficult, but not obvious either.
