Yep, the lack of certain characters on the old Apple keyboards is rather
a nuisance...

Can you get to the graphical "special characters" tool to then select
whatever oddball (or not so oddball) characters you wish?

Not as convenient as keeping your hands on the keyboard, but one clumsy
workaround...

Wild guess: Have you tried the Alt Gr key?
