Hi,

i've also heard lots of good things about magneto but haven't tried it.

if you're considering os-commerce then check out zen cart - a fork of 
os-commerce with a british developer & easier admin.

i was recently impressed with the combination of Joomla 1.5 & VirtueMart on 
initial evaluation but the project didn't go to completion so i can't comment 
on what it's like in production.

the last store i built used cubecart which is quite basic but easy to work 
with.
