[Nottingham] OOXML and the BSI (fwd)

Folks,

This should be of interest...

My own personal take on the saga is that the 'standard' that has been
pushed through is overly and unnecessarily large and complex so as to
cause the 'open' standard to be open only to the one large corporate
author. Noone else will have the time or resources to attempt to follow it!

Meanwhile, I believe there is another much smaller and more effective
open standard for the same purpose that includes a much more honest
implementation of the description 'open'...

Yet another attack on all Open Source?

A time to act?

Cheers,
Martin

Subject: [SB] OOXML and the BSI

You may be interested to know that UKUUG Council have taken a decision
to sue the BSI over their actions in this saga, the Reg has reported
this today:

I need hardly say that we need everyone's support with this, and a good
way of doing this would be to join the UKUUG

Best wishes,

John
