Any good encyclopedia should be very good for that!

For the encrypted filesystems, note that:

They only offer 'protection' against unwanted access in the event of
physical theft of the storage device;

NO additional protection is offered for any online attacks (or of
physical theft whilst the system is up and active);

Your backups, if encrypted, become vulnerable to the encryption failing
or you loosing the keys, or for if the decryption software is lost.

In short, use with care and expect to lose your encrypted data at some time.

Good luck,
Martin
