...by clicking the popup window's "close" box, instead of clicking
"cancel". The popups are clever [0], and "cancel" has the same action as
"OK". They're web forms, or clickable images rather than actual "OK" and
"Cancel" boxes that you're used to from an application point of view.

A giveaway is the fact that they're often formatted to look exactly like
Windows XP dialog boxes.

[0] Well, OK, maybe using the term clever is stretching things a
little...
