Good ideas there. The "deep update" may well be the crucial bit.

I'm letting that one run through now. It will take a while before it 
gets down to the glibc.

Nope. Nothing more exciting than just "fortune".

The main /exception/ is that I don't have any Xorg on this system. 
There's not anything more exciting than syntax colouring for the terminals!
