While we're on hardware recommendations...

I got a Hue HD webcam and it works very well. Despite the 1.3-Megapixel
sensor, the kernel drivers still only advertise a maximum of 640x480.
However, a very big plus is that the image is very sharp and clear and
shows a good dynamic range. The automatic gain control works well. It
also works well in low light conditions.

So, that's a good one.

Next: How to get the full resolution?
