Have you had any updates recently?

Has the config changed for your GUI clients?

Has something changed for making an anonymous login? Have you got a
valid email address set for the password for the ftp anonymous login?...

Do any of your GUI clients show a terminal window to show the ftp
interaction? (Try filezilla for example. You can then see exactly what
is going on.)
