[Nottingham] Kernel compilation and nvidia

Hi,
I was talking about my new laptop Dell Precision M4500 a few days ago in
an email. I managed to install everything except the touchpad, and the
video card driver is giving me headaches.
I tried to compile a new kernel, custom-made with some changes, as I
know why the touchpad is not working. It is linked to a bug here :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590880
But in that bug, it says :
I turned on debug in alps.c and it spit out the following:
alps.c: E6 report: 00 00 64
alps.c: E7 report: 73 02 64
And I have no idea how I can turn debug on in a kernel module. Can
anyone help, as I'm sure I can figure out what the code is for mine ?
But once I've figure that out, I'll need to recompile the kernel.
I tried that yesterday, just for fun, and the problem is that the
nvidia driver I downloaded via the kmod-nvidia RPM, only install on
the standard kernel, not on mine.
I tried to download the one from NVidia's website, but it won't start,
it says something about "No protocol" and waits, and X won't start.
Can anyone help me on those issues ?
Thanks
Fred
