I don't know if it helps but I picked up on the "not looking like just another WordPress site" idea. I chose to tweak "The Journalist" theme for my own site ( http://littlethorpe.net/wordpress/?p=135 ). Journalist was here: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/journalist The highslide and Code Colourer plugins were useful for me. -Cam
