A very good idea is to also download the iso checksum (md5sum or
whatever) so that you can check that you have actually got all the
correct bytes.
Then actually use the checksum to verify the iso file :-)
Aside: Most distros have now moved to formatting their iso files to be
compatible for both CD/DVD and also for USB memory stick booting.
So, instead of 'burning' a CD/DVD, you can instead from the
commandline, likely needed as root, do a:
dd if=WhateverYourIsoFile.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M
where sdX is the device file for your USB stick. Whatever partitions
on there will get obliterated. The bs=4M reduces wear on the memory
stick and speeds things up a bit.
