Leave British Gas or any of the other large utilities really.

The smaller providers usually have keener pricing and try that bit
harder, they don't have the luxury of playing a numbers game like the
big boys. Or jerking their customers round (looking at you, Scottish
Power who thinks it's acceptable to leave someone for 2 weeks with no
heating in the middle of winter).

We switched to Ovo and whilst their bills are estimated, they send me an
email once a month to ask for a reading. If I give them one, they base
the bill on that. If not, they estimate.
Their website is probably the best I've used from a utility company
because it focuses on (drum-roll) utilities! And not other products or
trying to get you to be part of "da <utility> communitah".
Also any overpayment with Ovo earns interest, which is nice.
