Re virtualization on Linux, I'm currently looking into moving some of
my services out of VMs and into much more lightweight LXC based
containers using something called Docker:

It's really cool technology. They've got a brilliant interactive
tutorial based on a fake Linux command line, that you can run through
on their website, to get an idea of how it works:

You can even run Docker containers on a Raspberry Pi. Good luck running
