It's things like that. And it's a crying shame.
There is probably so much important data sat in the NHS's dataset that
would allow epidemiologists and other researchers to tease trends and
lines of study that would benefit all our lives. But the whole idea of
that data being freed-up (aggregated, anonymised or otherwise highly
controlled) for such use is tainted by the fact that the management
layers of the NHS couldn't boil an egg.
Well, they could. But only after they have hired consultants to tell
them which pot is best. Sent out a tender for a hob and had a new house
built under PFI to have everything installed so they can boil the egg.
And then have the consumer of said egg fill out a multiple choice
questionnaire show they can show that the £800k they just spent on
boiling an egg was value for money because they hit their targets.
I must catch-up on my "Private Eye" reading as they probably have a lot
to say on it.
