[Nottingham] A Grumpy Geek? Or has the IT world moved click-it fun badges onwards?...

I think part of the problem is we let the non techy user into the linux scene and they want to install software too wi‎thout having to configure every little part. Which to be honest is nice but then they need reassuring that they actually did it.

Thanks
Tom

Folks,

So... I'll admit I'm steeped in the world of Gentoo and brusque
perfunctory "done" or "ready" or "completed" or even just a
"non-error-with-command-prompt"...

So to instead get the following effusiveness looks a little OTT:

#####

Installation finished

CONGRATULATIONS!

Your installation has successfully finished!

Now you can go and start using your brand new installation.

Go to start

#####

All in big friendly green letters and with a cute teddy-bear-like
picture at the side with a colourful "well done" badge emblazoned
proudly on its chest.

Is the "green" supposed to be somehow "eco"? Or a friendly welcome
back to nature in some way? (As opposed to the 'cold scary tech'?)

Somewhat reminds me of Eddie on the Heart of Gold from the
Hitch-Hiker's Guide series...

Or of this:...

Microsoft exams? Tough, you say? Pffft. 5-YEAR-OLD KID passes MCP test
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/11/15/five_year_old_passes_microsoft_certified_professional_exam/

As a 'professional', I really do not want screen space wasted with a
"well done" badge!

What is some parts of the IT coming to?... All too cloudy and foggy?...

Hopefully good for a bit of a giggle!!
Martin
