That's a key point. I hadn't considered it before. It's not necessarily
anything to do with the boards, other than they fit perfectly into the
spirit of cheap, accessible kit-computing. The resurrection of the
magazine alongside hasn't worked, but of course the 2000s equivalents
are web-based.
Added to that the fact that you *could*, at a push, run a
business (and certainly a homework/minecraft machine) on this hardware,
or use it to learn something that will help in your career. If embedded
really is one of the next big things. Another 5 years and I'd imagine a
much more capable machine able to replace and control many devices
around the home. Perhaps some kind of standard for
connecting/controlling them that can be plug and play for 'mum and dad'
too. That might be pushing it :) It's basically like the 80s but
arguably better.
