[Phpwm] Using Mysql Client with Proxy

I want to connect to an external Mysql database (host:
clun.scit.wlv.ac.uk) from my work desktop computer.
The work firewall prevents me from connecting directly, so I asked the
Network Manager to open up access for me, here is his response:
"sorry I can not just make changes to allow things I will need to
complete a request from for allowing servers or clients unfiltered port
access to the internet.
It would be much better from my end if you could send the request via
the proxy, but I have never accessed mysql across a proxy before so it
may not be possible."
Do you know if he's right, is it possible for me to provide proxy
information to the mysql client so that I can connect to the DB? If so
what is the syntax for doing this?
Thank you for your help,
Pete Graham
