[Phpwm] Copying and memory useage

We are having problems running out of memory (62meg) associated with a 
process of copying 100 or so images at 2 meg each and then creating 
thumbnails from them. The problem appears to arise from  the copy stage.
Does anyone have an insight to how the copy command uses memory - and 
more importantly releases it after running. Is there anything specific 
we can do to clear memory after the copy? In the thumbnail routine we 
are using 'imagedestroy' after each cycle.
