| It must be coming from somewhere though as I altered the xorg.conf
| file to reflect the new card, yet it still has the info on the old
| card appearing in there! An internal search of conf file contents
| might reveal something, I'll see if I can get it to do that!

See /var/log/Xorg.[0-9]+.log

| think it couldn't get into a position where it squirted a frequency
| at it that would damage it.

I don't think that's possible; the monitor itself will blank out to
protect itself if you try anything to jazzy.
