What type of barcodes are you after? EAN13, Code3of9, QR?

Google chart API now produces QR codes, which is nice and easy to hook into.

Code 3of9 can be done with images for each number, and a start and end  
(IIRC), so it'd be pretty trivial to put together. If it's EAN13, I'm not  
sure. There are probably libraries out there, but not sure any would be  
FOSS.
