Re: [Phpwm] trainings

Hi all,

As a recruiter for the IT sector I have
had met my fair share of candidates – most of which, it would seem, have
been promised some sort of training by their companies in the past. Generally
speaking it is not uncommon for training to be provided but seemingly this is
not always the case. In my experience, instances where some training is offered
then not delivered, can often result in candidates seeking new employment.

Most of my clients would all look for some
‘Zend’ or ‘Zend Framework’ qualification as an indication
of competence of PHP development. It may also be the case that if the hire can
be made without the qualification the subsequent training will be provided so
that a unified standard can be achieved across the team.

For instance a client I have worked with
for many years, based in Wolverhampton , who has
continually impressed by making Zend and Zend Framework certification available
to new and existing members of their production team. To top this they also
provide funding for members of staff to pursue both undergraduate and postgraduate
studies.

The client in question is currently
looking for a web based application developer. If this sounds like an opportunity
for you then feel free to get in touch.

Have you come up with a specific
piece of ‘training’ and asked for it? Every company I’ve
worked for has been happy to send me on courses (even coughing up over
£1000/year for OU studies) however I’ve has to chase down the courses and
sell my bosses the benefits of them.

The main problem with training is deciding what you need that can give back to
the company rather than just qualify your for your next job.

I got brainwashed by ‘Investors in People’ a few years ago (another
course I went on :0) ), which (though in most companies is just a badge to hang
on the wall) makes a lot of sense when it comes to training. Basically you
write a 5 year plan of where you want your company to be and what you want it
to be doing, look at the skills you have to deliver that and the skills you
need and build a training plan AND BUDGET around that.

And training can be books, conferences and free R&D time as much as going
on collage courses, infact conferences are the best training I’ve had.

Cheers

Mike

Hi,

Does your companies provide any trainings for their developers, and if yes

I've worked for lots of companies that promised this before
starting, but never actually had one that followed through.
