[Preston] Does anyone have any experience running/compiling Quake 1 on Linux?

Hello,

Apologies for the slightly off-topic post but I thought that you'd be
exactly the right type of people to ask this question.

I started a project on windows but expected to move to Linux so I used the
(supposedly cross-platform) Quake 1 engine.  I am having problems getting
Quake to run or compile on Linux, however.

Does anyone have any experience of compiling / running Quake 1 on Linux?
Does anyone have any experience with Quake-C and/or compiling Quake mods on
Linux?

Any input would be very much appreciated!
