Perhaps adding the list to gmane.org (a free mail to news gateway) would be a 
better idea?

NNTP clients are far better than both web based and mail clients for handling 
threaded discussions. It also means that people can choose how they recieve 
it (mail will still be there for those that want, and gmane has a web based 
interface for at least reading if not posting).
