Could be something in that. I'll check it out, once ....

oh yes indeed. I'm sitting here in horror after realising that I should really 
have engaged brain a bit more before typing in:

    mirrordir --no-chown --no-chmod /store/photos /backing_up/roberta/c

/backing_up/roberta/c is the smb mounted C:\ drive for Mrs Dougie's computer. 
Oh dear oh dear oh dear. I thought it was taking a long time. Oh boy - her 
desktop is looking, how shall we say, a bit sparse at the moment.  Hmmm, 
she'll be home from work in about an hour - wonder if that's enough time to 
re-install windows 98 and apps.

could be - I think I posted something to the debian or uk linux newsgroup. 
It's something I return to from time to time, then get bored, and never get 
around to fixing. I'll well and truly knackered it this time!
