[Preston] Firewall error packets

Dunno yet, but it could be because I've missed the -r out of a line 
in /etc/init.d/sysklogd: i.e.

	# Options for start/restart the daemons
        #   For remote UDP logging use SYSLOGD="-r"
        #
        SYSLOGD=""

You don't appreciate how much undocumented tweaking you do on a server until 
you reinstall it and re-learn all the quirks. My ADSL router logs messages to 
my linux box, so perhaps it's thrown in these weird lines because it isn't 
being allowed to. I'll know soon enough.
