[Preston] Strange HDD / IDE problems

This is a hardware issue. Have you been inside the PC recently? Checked
for loose cables? Try unpluging them and shoving them in again,
sometimes the contacts go after awhile and they need reseating. (more
common on memory/expansion cards/cheap cables)

Failing that, it looks like your hard drive and/or motherboard is on the
verge of imploding. Do frequent backups!
